about

"ANGELS of WARSAW is a play about two Americans and two Poles who meet on a train from Paris to Warsaw, and whose fates become entwined. Each character is paired with an angel who watches, guards and accompanies, much as this music accompanies the play. Tom Wiggins joined the world premiere production as composer, and wrote and arranged the music for the play. He expanded the music for this album.

This music easily stands alone. It captures the spirit of travel: an expansion of emotion, an openness to the foreign. In “Detente / East Meets West”, for example, Wiggins starts with a grand old Chopin Polonaise but slows it down from a hundred beats a minute to only twenty! A contemporary jazz saxophone line is played against
this. The expanded time creates a sense of space – a sense of place, nearly – a place both ancient and contemporary, a strange place that is almost familiar, a place worth traveling to."
Marisha Chamberlain, Playwright
